A review is an overview and sales pitch related to an item that your visitors either want or need. Your job as an Internet marketer is to convince your visitors that the product is what they are looking for and to purchase the product from you.

Recently, the FTC changed the law on Internet marketing, now you are required to add a disclosure that your review is in effect an advertisement. Additionally, you will need to disclose if you received the product for free to review.

Here are some of the element of writing a great product review.

First, you need to determine who your visitors are and what they expect from your review. You need to know about their demographics and what writing style to use to reach their buying desires.

Know the product. Your visitors will most likely be well versed with your niche and/or product. If you are not familiar with the product, pay someone to write the review for you.

Outline the benefits of the product, not the features. Tell your visitors how the product will help solve their problem, not how it will help them.

Be objective. Give the pros and cons of the product. Remember, your are not selling the product – you are reviewing the product.

Avoid needless details. Some details are less important than others. If you over analyze the product, you could lose credibility.

Product comparisons can be used, if you think it is necessary.

A great product review will help your visitors determine if the product meets their specific needs. That means it must be well written and pointed towards a call to action.

Lastly, optimize your review for the search engines.

A product review that is well written can be the difference between a conversion and a customer that just can’t decide.

As work from home business owners, we must develop the skill of writing great product reviews. By doing so, you could develop repeat customers, and brand yourself as an expert in your niche.

This makes writing the content for your homepage very important. It is the gateway to the rest of your site. It is important that your home page has the right content to encourage your visitors to click-through to other pages of your site, or on your product links.

• Be sure to get the links to your product or service, either by text links, banner links, or any other links you have available to you.
• Include some of the benefits of your product or service.
• Write content that is focused around your customer persona, what writing style you want to use.

Give your visitors just a taste of what you have to offer, instead of overwhelming them with too much information.

• Try to include some of the benefits in the title
• Get to the point quickly

Ideas on what NOT TO include

Do not make it hard for your visitor to see what you have to offer. Have clean-looking website that is easy to understand and navigate.

Do not use all of your keywords in the homepage content or footer. Again, this could make your content look too “spammy” to your visitors and to the search engines.

Do not include every product benefit. Instead, just use specific product benefits on each specific product page.

Do not write just general information. This can be found everywhere on the Internet.

Do not fill the title with just your keyword. This again could confuse your visitors, and not give a good impression of your website.

Do not link to every product or service you offer. Only link to products in the niche of your website. Otherwise, you will overwhelm or confuse your visitor.

Do not tell your entire story on your homepage. This could just bore your visitors.

Another thing you could do is this. Have someone you trust read your content, then ask them some general questions about what they read. This should give you a good idea of what your
visitors may think. Ask them what they think need to be changed to get the results you want.

The last thing I would do if you are not getting the results you want, is check the your keyword analytics again. You may need to change the keywords for your site. This would be my last resort though.

I think that the content on your homepage is more important than the layout and design of your homepage. I have seen many websites that didn’t look all that good to the eye, but they did have one thing in common, the content was great.

As work from home business owners, it is important that we keep our visitors on our websites. Having great content is a way to accomplish that. We need to take a good, hard look at our
website content. If our content is not up to par, then we need to make changes to the content. If you are just starting a work from home business, then work very hard on your website content, getting it right the first time could save huge amounts of time and lost income. I know, you find an affiliate opportunity that you just can’t pass up – so you join up, buy a domain name, and get everything ready to go. Another common blunder is how your promote your affiliate program. Internet marketing is constantly changing. Right now the HOT strategy is using social media. Before that it was social bookmarking.

It is important to consider your target audience when deciding how to promote an offer. If your target audience is not using your promotional strategy, then you need to find out how they are shopping. Then add that type of promotion to your strategy.

This is another one I have a problem with. You need to be aware of any seasonal, or special occasion days.  This could be a public holiday, back-to-school, Valentines Day, or vacation planning time. It is very important to make your offers relevant, in order to appeal to your audience and boost your revenues. Seasonality is never out of season.

So, you need to start planning 4-6 weeks in advance. That way, you will have to time to improve the rankings of your website and get all your “ducks in a row.”

Promotional Tools

You need to be current with any banners or links for your products. So check them often. The affiliate program could change their marketing strategy, they could offer a seasonal promotion, or any other reason that would make the banners you are using obsolete.

Also, you can get in touch with the affiliate manager (AM), and get some ideas on what tactics to use to promote the product.

Non-compliance

This is another one that I’m lax on right now. I’m not real sure what is required for this. But, it looks like it’s something we’re all going to have to do.

With the FTC and industry organizations cracking down on non-compliant affiliates, it is even more important now to keep up-to-date with regulatory guidelines. Advertisers continuously look to partner with affiliates who will protect their brand image and reputation, and will take their business away from any non-compliant affiliates. So to keep the money flowing in, make sure you stay on the right side of compliance.

As work from home business owners, we need to be doing these things to make our home businesses more profitable. In most cases, these do not take that much time to do. By knowing these blunders, you can be prepared and hopefully avoid these perils to safeguard your profits.

In terms of research, I mean – finding a niche, finding a product or service to sell, and finding the correct keywords or keyword phrases to use for promoting your website.

Niche -

There are many opinions as to how to choose a niche. Some say, “find a niche you know a lot about”. That may not work, it may be too competitive or there may not be any products to sell in that niche. Others say, “go into something that is a hobby”. I’ll give you the same answer.

While these may be good ways, I say be creative. You may have to go into a niche that you know nothing about. I have done this on may occasions. You can be successful by doing this. I will just require more research. Plus, you can choose a product or service that pays well to sell.

Product or Service -

You will need to do research on products or services to promote on your website. You will need a product that offers a good commission on each sale. And, one that is related to your niche.

Keywords -

After deciding on what niche you will be marketing in, you will need to do your research on what keywords or keyword phrases to use for your Internet marketing campaign. These keywords need to have a lot of traffic to them. Not the most competitive (it will take longer to get rankings) and not those that do not have much competition (probably won’t get many sales).

Finding the right keywords is the most important step in any SEO campaign. Make a list of all the words you think people will type in the search box to find your product or service. Next, use something like Google Keyword Tool, to analyze your list for the number of monthly searches.

If you are not getting the results you are wanting. Do not be afraid to change your keywords.

Lastly, do a competitive market analysis on your niche. Check out all the competition on Page 1 of your niche. Look at their page rank, number of backlinks, and any other information you can get about them.

On-Page SEO

Domain Name -

Include your main Keyword in somewhere in your domain name.

Title Tag -

Include your main keyword in the Title of you website.

Meta Tags -

Even though Google has made these less important, I suggest you include them. If you are using WordPress for your website, these will be listed as “tags”. These are the keywords that you used in the article you are publishing.

Alt Tags -

These are for any images used within your article.

Site Map -

Always, always, always include a site map on your website.

Content

Google is now using content in their ranking algorithms. So be sure that your content unique, quality, and informative. Write for your visitors, meaning write articles that inform, answer questions, give a “how-to” list, or reviews of products. That way, your visitors will keep returning.

Try to include your keywords or keyword phrases at a rate of about 3-5% of your total words. If you use them too much, Google and other search engines will think they are SPAM. At a minimum, 5-6 times in your article. This will increase your chances of getting your content properly indexed.

Off-Page SEO

This is probably the most time consuming part of SEO, but something that has to be done. This mainly is building “backlinks”.

There are many ways to build backlinks, ranging from commenting on blogs and forums to linking to other websites. The more…the merrier.

Try to get links from higher ranked sites, like PR5 to PR10 sites, for better quality link-juice. But, also include lots of lower ranked sites.

Also, try to find some .EDU and .GOV sites, they may be hard to find. Even though Google has stated they are not as important as they use to be,

Do not link to pron sites, gambling sites, or any other questionable sites. If you have to stop and wonder if it’s ok to do it then it probably isn’t.

Don’t ever stop building backlinks. Why? Because you can keep getting higher rankings and keep your competition behind you.

F. Buy Existing Domain Names (aged domains that are no longer active)

These are just a few of the strategies that you can use to begin a successful SEO and website promotion campaign. There are volumes and volumes of information on SEO, these are just the ones that I think are most important.

The most import step for you is to take action. Everything you do should be with the intent of growing your business.

Whether you have owned a work from home business for a while, or just starting a work from home business, you must constantly work on SEO. By doing so, you can improve your rankings and make more sales.

Look for authority sites in your niche that you can get links from. You can also look for .EDU and .GOV sites that you can link to. Also look for sites that have a ranking above a Page 4 rank.

Search engine optimization can contribute greatly to the success or failure of your website. It is important that you do the right things in the right order and that you focus on the right elements.

By writing unique, informative, original, and maybe even controversial content, you will get other other Internet marketers to writing about you, your website, or blog. This will bring in new traffic and backlinks which will help boost your rankings in the search engines.

Attracts Search Engines

By writing new content on a regular basis, you will show the search engines that there is always something new on your webiste or blog. As a result, the search engine spiders will visit your site more often.

But what do you write about?

This is a question that most work from home business owners ask themselves. Writing content is something that most Internet marketers try to avoid, for whatever reason. But, it really is not that hard to write a 500 word article.

Every niche has topics that need to be addressed. Just remember, there are people out there that have no idea of what some niches are about, that is why they are looking for information on a certain topic. So they look to the experts, that is you, in that niche to supply them with that information.

Write content that answers questions or solves problems. Write “how to” or “top 5 reasons” articles. There are many ways to tackle a subject, just figure out what information prople are looking for.

Content is an investment in your website, that keeps bringing visitors month after month and year after year. It is just amazing to see content that is several years old still bring visitors to your site.

As work from home business owners, we must constantly add new content to our website or blog. This is a way to get free traffic and ranking for our website. Remember, you are not writing a novel, it is more like writing an essay.
